Komatsu NTC Co., Ltd. [3D CAD Implementation Case] i CAD SX

Thoroughly analyze the hidden problems in design engineering and significantly reduce design man-hours and lead time in three steps!

We will introduce a case study of business improvement using the 3D CAD "iCAD SX," which is specialized in mechanical design. At Komatsu NTC Corporation, the design process of transfer machines was thoroughly analyzed, and it was identified that the dedicated design of certain modules was the main cause of increased man-hours. (There were covers of both 1500mm and 1510mm.) In order to aim for the standardization and normalization of the constituent parts that require dedicated design, the company decided to transition to 3D design and utilized "iCAD SX," which has lightweight data and is easy to modify. In addition to successfully halving the lead time for module design, they have further reduced design man-hours by establishing an automatic drawing system for tooling diagrams. [Main Effects of Implementation] - By 3D modeling each part's drawings and standardizing and normalizing constituent parts, lead time was halved. - By 3D modeling piping design, total man-hours for piping design and manufacturing were reduced by nearly 30%. Piping and wiring design

Large-scale routing on 3D CAD assemblies! Significant reduction in rework hours on the manufacturing floor through prior wiring considerations.

In mechanical devices and production/plant equipment, it is important to be able to consider not only the mechanics but also the piping, wiring, and steel materials while confirming the surrounding arrangements. However, the following issues arise in the design field. 【Common Concerns】 - 3D CAD data is heavy, making it difficult to consider piping and wiring. - Since piping and wiring are designed using specialized software, any modifications on the mechanical side require restarting the 3D CAD each time. - Using multiple software makes it difficult to maintain consistency. - Modifications cannot be made on the spot as design reviews are conducted with a viewer. All of these issues can be resolved. With COLMINA Design and Manufacturing Support iCAD SX (hereinafter referred to as iCAD), we have achieved a processing performance of 0.2 seconds for 3 million parts through the incorporation of proprietary technology. We have succeeded in reducing the weight of 3D data to about 1/50 of its original weight (compared to our company), and by accumulating and utilizing all information related to large-scale piping, wiring, and steel materials in iCAD, we support the realization of DX in manufacturing. For more details, please download the catalog and check it.

Shimane Fujitsu Co., Ltd. [3D CAD Implementation Case] i CAD SX

Reduced the startup period of the production line for PCs by 40%! Robot simulation on 3D CAD.

We would like to introduce a case study of business improvement using the 3D CAD "iCAD SX," which is specialized in mechanical design. At "Shimane Fujitsu Co., Ltd.," they are internalizing the production equipment for laptops and other devices. They decided to transition to 3D design to enable vertical ramp-up during the switch between over 20 different models. By designing and virtually verifying the optimal placement of robots and the design and manufacturing of jigs, which are challenges that arise with each work change, they were able to shorten the line ramp-up period by 40% using iCAD SX. As a result of reducing the ramp-up period and minimizing rework, they were able to secure more time for consideration in the planning phase of the equipment. 【Main Effects of Implementation】 - The ramp-up period after equipment installation was reduced from 5 days to 3 days. - Robot simulation, including surrounding equipment, is now possible on the 3D CAD. - Interference is significantly reduced in 3D design. 【Document Download】 - Currently available for limited viewing on the "Special Site." Nippon Steel Corporation [3D CAD Implementation Case] i CAD SX

Visualization of design! 3D CAD that realizes the advancement of work processes.

At "Nippon Steel Corporation Hiroshima Works," there were issues with changes in design information for large resin pellet manufacturing equipment (industrial machinery and plant facilities) that could not be covered by 2D planning drawings. The company decided to transition to 3D design with the aim of front-loading. After experiencing difficulties with a previously adopted history-based 3D CAD, they selected "iCAD SX," which does not suffer from slow response times even when handling tens of thousands of parts. As a result, they were able to enhance design reviews and disclose design information early through 3D models, leading to an acceleration of the design workflow and cost reductions through the compactification of equipment. **Main Benefits of Implementation** - Creation of overall planning drawings reduced by half (from 2 months to less than 1 month) - Significant reduction in assembly interference and a 20% reduction in design support personnel - Cost reduction through equipment compactification (e.g., 43% volume reduction) **Document Download** - Currently available for limited access on the special site.
